About ME

Marcia Loschiavo - Photographer

As a young girl, I was fascinated by my father’s 35mm and movie cameras.  I loved family time watching slides that he had taken all over the world while in the Navy.  I couldn’t wait until I was old enough to get a “real” camera of my own, which was a  Kodak Instamatic camera that used flash cubes.  I still have the photos in an album that I took when I was only about 12 years old.  As a young adult, I had fun working in a Kodak Photo booth kiosk.  It was a small, one-man booth in the middle of a shopping center parking lot.  People would drive up and drop off their film to be developed and order other photographic items.  I have owned various 35mm point and shoot cameras over the years.  Most of them delivered frustrating, blurry or dark photos after waiting days for them to be developed.

Interestingly, with all my passion for photography, I didn’t purchase a DSLR camera until much later in life.  At that point, I was determined to learn how to use the camera in manual modes. Through research I learned this is how you create awesome photos.  First, I took courses on how to use a DSLR camera in manual mode and then a class in night photography. Finally, I took classes on how to use Photoshop and Lightroom.  During the last few years, I have created a 360-day photo project and several 52-week photo projects following the guidelines DSLR Photography Course.  This is where you take at least one photo per day or per week. Usually, my photo shoots end up with many more than one photo each session.  Lastly, I arranged my favorite photos in photo books to show my photo journey.

What inspires me as a photographer is the drive to capture moments, people, and places in time forever.  Memories fade but a photo can last for many generations. When I am on a walk or on a trip I look for the unique and unusual in the beautiful world around me.

Art and design have been a part of my interests from a young age. Creating designs in clothing and window treatments has woven through my               life for many years with my business Seams To Me.  The most exciting design moment was when my menswear                      clothing design college project was worn by a model in a runway show at VCU.  I designed, created the                                      patterns, constructed and fitted the garments to the model.  My most memorable photography                                                moments are from our European trip in 2017.  I was delighted to be able to use manual mode and take                                          thousands of memorable “moments in time” in 5 countries.

One of my favorite locations to photograph is the Outer Banks of North Carolina, USA. Particularly, I enjoy photographing the wild Mustang horses that roam the island and beaches.  In addition, the island presents awesome sunsets, wildlife, gorgeous flowers, lighthouses and more.

My aspirations as a photographer are to continue to add joy to my life with the challenge of learning to take my personal best photos. All the while, enjoying the people, places and events around me. My greatest satisfaction is sharing my photo passion and special moments in time with family and friends.
